Despite the New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker’s below average performance against the New York Jets last week, he still remains on pace to break some records this season. Not just any records though, but those held by the all-time greatest Jerry Rice. In 1995, Jerry Rice recorded 122 receptions, 1848 yards, and 15 touchdowns for the San Francisco 49ers which is still the best single season numbers put up by any receiver. It’s hard to say if Welker will reach these milestones considering the decline in good weather as the season comes closer to the play-offs. The Patriots end their season with two home games on Christmas Eve and on New Year’s Day, which are usually below freezing levels. New England’s upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs may be his chance to break out and keep a little cushion to stay ahead of pace if he wants to break that record. Only time will tell if he will be able to endure the punishment of a whole NFL season and be that productive every week. Considering he has already been struggling with ailing injuries this season that may have effected his performance last week, this small framed wide out may have already started his decline. It may be wise to trade him now while his stock is high and get a couple of valuable players in return for him. Either way I think everyone is anxious to see how the rest of his season will pan out, and I wish him the best of luck in his pursue to the top.
